[...] Il aura fallu du temps avant qu'il couche ses morceaux sur disque. Première sortie officielle l'an dernier, avec un EP chez Freaksville, Blood, déjà prometteur quoiqu'assez convenu. Et aujourd'hui, il annonce la sortie de son premier album complet, Terror Terror Everywhere Nor Any Stop to Think, prévu pour le 15 novembre chez Anorak Supersport.
Entouré d'une équipe costaude (Boris Gronemberger à la production, Laurent Eyen aux prises et mix), il accouchera d'un album qu'on nous dit "à la fois intime et corrosif", et dont le premier extrait, Dots, qui ouvrira l'album, fait plus que nous mettre l'eau à la bouche avec ses relents de Stone Roses, The Jam et Arctic Monkeys.
Parlant d'"extrême droite, du manque inhumain d'empathie envers les victimes de la guerre et ceux qui la fuient", Dots est effectivement incisif à souhait, déployant un discours engagé sans tomber un instant dans les clichés démagos, ce qui est malheureusement trop souvent le cas de ce genre d'exercice. We will be in concert on Saturday, October 1 at the Botanique in Brussels to celebrate the release of our second album "Word".
In addition to playing on stage the whole album, we will offer a few surprises! We are eager to present the fruit of our labor!

Après un premier album qui les avait fait connaitre un peu partout en Belgique, les rockeurs d’Elvis Black Stars reviennent avec un EP.
«Ça fait du bien d’être dehors!», un cri du cœur lancé par Damien, le batteur. En cette journée ensoleillée et en terrasse, les Elvis Black Stars profitent de l’été. Il faut dire que le temps des festivals est revenu et qu’ils ne se sont pas privés de bouter le feu sur chaque scène sur lesquelles ils étaient annoncés: lors des nuits Botanique à Bruxelles, mais aussi lors des Ardentes ou au Baudet’stival. «Ce n’est que l’échauffement », prévient déjà Arnaud, «nouveau» guitariste du groupe. Pas de doute, deux ans et demi après leur premier album, le groupe andennais réveille la bête. Et quelle bête: un doberman qui s’affiche fièrement sur la pochette du nouvel EP des Oursons. Augustin, le chanteur, explique: «Le doberman, c’est un peu notre groupe dans le sens où ce chien est très noble tout en pouvant être très rageur. Un peu comme notre musique. On joue sur le double sens. »

Frontstage (LeSoir) was yesterday night at the Orangerie (Botanique-Bxl) attending Elvis Black Stars on stage : Prochain album encore… Celui d’Elvis Black Stars est aussi annoncé, précédé de deux singles (« Better than you », « Sect of happiness ») et d’un ep sobrement intitulé #1 (il y en aura un second). Avec le quintette (sur scène en tout cas), on reste au premier abord dans les eaux de Black Rebel Motorcycle Club et consorts. La voix qui traîne un peu sur les finales fait par contre plus anglaise, tendance – de fait – les frangins Gallagher. Le groupe d’Andenne sait manifestement comment trousser un refrain rock’n’roll qui colle dans les oreilles, n’hésite pas quant aux grosses guitares et ne manque pas non plus d’énergie. Peut-être un peu de spontanéité ou de surprise. Pour l’instant en tout cas.

Non, pas assez en chair pour rassurer les ouailles. D'autant que le visage couteau porte une mince cicatrice habillant l'oeil droit. D'un sourire, tout cela se métamorphose en profil d'homme encore jeune, charmant mais toujours doué d'ubiquité. L'auteur de fausses bluettes (Ma femme me trompe) est le même qui, aux récentes Nuits Botanique, crame l'électricité en chicotant longuement sa Gretsch bordeaux.

Het Luikse Blue Velvet is sterk beïnvloed door Dead Man Ray en heeft met Rudy Trouvé dan ook de geschikte producer aan de haak geslagen. De knappe productie is ook het eerste wat opvalt aan
’Level II’. De poprock meets folk is in een chique maatpak gehesen dat de inhoud alleen maar opwaardeert. Het duo Mirco en pH vormen het centrale zenuwstelsel dat bijgestaan wordt door een resem muzikanten. We horen Eels meets Girls In Hawaï maar dan structureel een pak avontuurlijker. ’Level II’ is een aangename luisterplaat die af en toe blijk geeft van grote klasse zoals in ’Message On My Lips’ of ’Wayhouse’ met zijn heerlijk meanderend trompetje. Jammer genoeg wordt de aandacht niet altijd even sterk aangehouden en zouden enkele nummers beter de selectie niet doorstaan hebben
– ’Level II’ duurt immers net geen 50 minuten. Iets meer gebald en dit album was een (nog) stevige(re) aanrader! (dw)

(the) Silent Days are a French band from Belgium that play a relaxed and lush indie pop. They just released the California EP, and I must say it is quite the pleasant listen. Unfortunately, that’s about all I can say. There isn’t anything inherently wrong with this band, but they simply don’t make a lasting impression. Julien Bouchard, band leader, just writes quaint songs that seem like great open mic night material. While the tunes are good, they are ultimately not catchy enough.

Blue Velvet : new review. (09/29/2010)
L’univers singulier de Blue Velvet est le fruit d’une belle et simple rencontre entre deux mélomanes avertis : Mirco et pH. « Level 2 » constitue leur second album. Une formation dont les influences sont particulièrement variées. Mais une question s’impose d’emblée : serions-nous en présence d’un concept sombre et hermétique, influencé par certaines œuvres de David Lynch, à qui ils ont emprunté le titre de l’une d’entre-elles, pour baptiser leur groupe ? Si c’est le cas, il faut plus aller chercher du côté du voyage contemplatif d’« Une Histoire Vraie » que des divagations oniriques d’« Inland Empire » ; car leur expression sonore rappelle constamment les grands espaces américains. Le tout, bien évidemment, revu et corrigé, suivant un feeling bien belge. Dans cette optique, pas étonnant de retrouver l’illustre Rudy Trouvé (ex-dEUS) à leurs côtés, pour la production et souvent à la guitare ! Si les références à Tom Waits et My Bloody Valentine sont avancées par le dossier de presse, les influences de Blue Velvet sont bien plus riches que celles annoncées. Et sont susceptibles de lorgner vers le rock déviant de Dead Man Ray ou électro de The Notwist, le folk dérangé de Neutral Milk Hotel (« Outside », « Poison ») ou sombre de Santa Cruz (« Level II ») voire même de privilégier la forme acoustique (« Try Again ») ou même électro. Le sommet du recours au bidouillages est atteint sur des titres comme « The Girls Of My Life » ou le très mélodique « Message On My Lips ». Le spectre de dEUS est cependant bien présent (« Mad Horse », « Clear My Sun »). Faut dire que les guitares acérées de Rudy sont tellement caractéristiques. Néanmoins, malgré ce référencement particulièrement ample, Blue Velvet possède assurément une identité propre. D’ailleurs si ce combo devrait aisément se faire une place au soleil, sur la scène noir, jaune, rouge (NDR : tant que la Belgique existe encore) ; il possède suffisamment de potentiel pour s’exporter et briller au-delà de ces frontières

My Trap

Soyons brefs : My Trap est l’une des plus belles surprises entendues ces derniers mois. On attendait pas grand chose de ses auteurs : l’ex-claviériste de Tahiti 80 Fabrice Hubert et son comparse David Leloup avaient signé, en 2004, un disque bordélique, plaisant mais franchement dispensable (Two Brains For Feet). Or, Yéyé renait aujourd’hui sous la forme d’une improbable machine à tubes, nés d’un mariage joliment réarrangé entre sons synthétiques et notes organiques, fulgurances live et calibrage métronomique. Banal sur le papier. Dans les oreilles, c’est une autre limonade. Si Hubert et Leloup forment l’ossature de Yéyé, ce noyau dur reste ouvert à tous les vents rafraichissants. Le tandem est épaulé par l’ex-Boo Radleys Sice, Mark Gardener (ex-Ride), Jon Auer (The Posies), Helena Noguerra, La Maison Tellier, Wilfried Schaeffer (Maarten) ou encore Clément Daquin (Alb). Malgré tout, My Trap n’est pas un disque de producteurs à featurings façon UNKLE ou Death In Vegas. Réellement impliqué, Sice cosigne plus de la moitié des titres, promène son sourire mélodieux au milieu de basses vrombissantes et de claviers kaléidoscopiques (le tube éponyme en ouverture), évoque à notre bon souvenir les Allemands Miles (Heroine), une éventuelle reformation d’Electronic (So Long), convoque Saint-Etienne ou Eggstone (la cuivrée Pope Of The Pop, portée par le tandem Helena-Sice). Ailleurs, Jon Auer prend la parole sur Comin’At Night, prière rétrofuturiste pour nef digitale aux lointains échos du Synthetizers In The Rain de Denim. Enfin, citons Understand, perdu entre claviers cheesy et guitares atmosphériques – les mêmes qui brouillent My Story ou Oxford 3am, hommage à la ville de Mark Gardener, qui tient le manche acoustique de Supa Vixen, modèle de pop éclatée et multicolore. Cet impeccable florilège parsème les clins d’œil aux vieux amis, les coups de coude à la concurrence et déploie son insolente exubérance avec une classe insouciante. My Trap est de ces pièges dans lesquels on tombe volontiers, certain d’y trouver la perfection.

First show of SOLDOUT yesterday as support for FRONT 242 in Frankfurt...it it was a real success.
I'm so happy we picked SOLDOUT to follow us on those German dates, really!
Even if our German audience is usually not too much into that kind of electro, the response was positive and warm!
The show was strong, the sound perfect and the band into it a 100%! I personally enjoy it and will for sure be there every night to enjoy it again!

Yesterday we were in Stuttgart, and guess what? SOLDOUT did it again! The sound was even better than in Frankfurt.
Last night was probably a little more challenging for the band cause they started early and most of the audience was still not front stage!
But that certainly didn't stop Chalotte and David to get into it, quick and efficiently, and it took them only 2 tracks to get the entire attention of the public.
Response was surely positive to their perfect performance. Charlotte's vocals were again at the right place and level and David's synths sound attack cutting like a blade!
A strong electro-cocktail to start the evening!

Soldout on "BOXON MAKES ME CRAZY" LP (03/25/2010)
After the release in January 2009 of the LP called "Boxon Makes Me Happy" (ref. Boxon007), which has been pretty successfull (special discovery of artists such as Gooseflesh & StereoHeroes / good reviews in the french magazines such as Trax & Tsugi / some of the tracks have been playlisted on BBC Radio 1), now is coming the new BOXON compilation, and it is called "BOXON MAKES ME CRAZY".
This project will show you nice electronic music from artists who come from all around the word (Portugal, France, Russia, Belgium, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, and Argentina), and discovered by Julien Minet (Boxon director) during this year 2009. I'm sure you'll love to get it in your hands when it's OUT !!!
Also, the awesome design of the cover has been realised by our art designer, Anem.

(The) Silent Days : About the AB gig on Music In Belgium (02/12/2010)
Sans grande surprise, ce concert affichait complet et on était curieux de voir si le regain de forme affiché lors des précédentes prestations scéniques (en mars 2008 dans la même salle et quelques mois plus tard au Pukkelpop) allait se confirmer. Mais avant de juger sur pièces, place à une première partie, The Silent Days. Un groupe on ne peut plus british (le style, l'attitude, l'accent) à la différence essentielle qu'ils sont français et assez implantés en Belgique. En effet, leur premier album, "I Am Nothing" est distribué par le label hutois Anorak Supersport.
Sur scène, ils sont déjà bien aguerris et leurs influences plutôt crasseuses du début des 90's (Dinosaur Jr, Lemonheads) en un peu plus poppy sont étonnamment limpides grâce à un son réglé à la perfection (pour un groupe de support). Ajoutons-y la voix assurée et le jeu de guitare sans faille de leur leader Julien Bouchard et on arrive à une prestation qui, sans être révolutionnaire, aura convaincu. Cerise sur le gâteau, cette excellente cover du "Chapel Hill" de Sonic Youth, une autre de leurs influences majeures. A ce moment, on ne le savait pas encore, mais on avait intérêt à en avoir bien profité…

Lot of changes to begin this new season at anorak's.
We have lightened our label for some different reasons.
Exit Showstar (end of contract). The band has created his own structure (label, management and booking).
We wish them the best !
Besides, we've put an end to some of our licence deals (iamx, robots in disguise, nietzsche,...).
And our collaboration with the french label kitchen music is over.
Nevertheless, you will find "our past" in the section "friends and back catalogue" and most of their records are available (till they're sold out) in our online store.
We're looking for new signatures and we'll let you know about that for sure.

Soldout at Ancienne Belgique + MVSC + CasioKids (10/25/2008)
Soldout, namely the duo David and Charlotte from Brussels, appropriately head the bill. Following their debut ‘Stop Talking’, they toured through Europe and finished up at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York. In 2007 they met Jason Boshoff, known for his work for Groove Armada, Basement Jaxx and Shy Child and he promptly suggested mixing their new album. New album ‘CUTS’ proved to be a bomb too: a more somber tone, but still a danceable rollercoaster. Following a Botanique concert that was sold out weeks in advance, the Soldout party caravan will stop on the Anspachlaan in mid February.
MVSC is a project from MONTEVIDEO, those 4 young guys from Brussels who first presented themselves to an audience last year during ABBota. With their energetic and compelling electro-dance-rock, they were hailed as the newest Belgian rock sensation at the time, think: The Rapture or !!! Now they’re fraternizing with electro miracle-man and Dirty Dancing resident COMPUPHONIC to together provide dancefloor mechanisms that raise the roof. Following an avant première in the VUB Kultuurkaffee on 11 December (as part of ABClubCircuit) then finally live in the AB.
Norwegian Casiokids play around with all sorts of electronica, just like primary school children. So its not so strange then that they also give shows for children in their homeland (with Digitalteateret). But aside from that they were also able to win the heart of our travelling man at the Oya Festival in Oslo, with their grooves that waver between dark electro and naive pop. A revelation that has just been included in the succulent Moshi Moshi stables.
Since early 2006, AB has been laying new tracks with the NOW_SERIES. Samples of what’s happening today in a broadly defined genre are presented sporadically under this title. Our ears are pricked in all directions and of course we don't forget the local talent either. Further, no blinkers: all sub-genres must be able to be represented in order to introduce the audience to particular tendencies.

Fresh Box (06/19/2008)
The Box, new single of soldout (from their forthcoming album) will be "fresh" on PureFm from tomorrow !
The electronic duo is currently putting the final touch to the recording of its second album @ studio Strongroom in London (yes, that's also the place where Kid A and also many new english bands (Klaxons, Kooks, Hot Chip ...) have worked).
Soldout just sent us the first title "The Box", the production was entrusted to Mr. Jason Boshoff who did among other things the latest Shy Child album.
Soldout will give a unique concert this summer @ Les Ardentes, their second album is expected late September.

After been releasing in France on LeGrandBag (differ-ant), "dot" was also released in june in the UK through the pop label Summerhouse records and is also available on the virtuel swedish store Delicious Goldfish Records. As we're in the virtual world, Showstar is the first belgian band to join the prestigious power-pop indie american label Not Lame (good music for good people) and this is what Bruce Brodeen, boss of the label, says about it : "Import from Belgium! Mixtures of all kinds of appealing Not Lame-styled sounds. Bits of Supergrass, Teenage Fanclub, Blur-ish Britpop and Ash. Listen below and hear what we hear!
